Naomie's Vegan Protein Breakfast Smoothie


So over the last 4 weeks I have been following a carb controlled meal plan which has resulted me in losing 7lbs! Although I'm halfway towards my goal and I couldn't hold in the excitement any longer I really wanted to share with you this great little meal replacement that is not only tasty but does the job!

So with this plan, The idea is to Have a smoothie every morning for breakfast. Now thats not the only option! You are allowed to have eggs or bacon for brekkie if you prefer but, for the majority of the week I try stick to the shakes. They are perfect if you're on the go, like on your way to work. Or sometimes if i have an omelette for breakfast I will sometimes opt for the shake for my lunch instead.


Now this is my first time trying this shake with the My Protein Vegan Blend. Ive never used this company before, so I will give an honest review of how it tastes comparing it to my usual brand The Protein Works. My reason for choosing MP this time is because this particular blend is made from Pea Protein whereas TPW is typically made from a soy protein, and too much soy is not good for you. 

I also opted for a Vegan Protein because regular protein powders often gives me the bubble guts so no dairy over here please!



1-2 scoops High Quality Whey or Pea Protein Powder.

1/2 cup of Low to Moderate-Glycemic Fruit

- In my smoothie I usually opt for (Mixed Berries, Apple, Banana and Cherries) You can use this database to find out the GI index of your chosen fruits.

1 Tbsp cinnamon + 1/2 Tbsp Turmeric

1 Tbsp Flaxseed & Chia 

1 scoop of Greens powder

8-10 Ounces of Unsweetened Almond Milk 

- I often mix 2 parts Almond milk to 1 part water.

Mix it all up and enjoy!

- Using a high speed blender mix for 1 min, shake and mix again, when using berries it can make your smoothie bitty, so you really want to blend those out. 


I didn't enjoy the Pea Protein texture as much because it's by far more grainy than Whey Protein. I'm not sure if it's because I ordered the unflavoured version, but it really is quite distasteful and dry, even with all the fruits I added. After purchasing from My Protein I read that many others experienced the same thing, they advise using banana or pineapple in the smoothie to mask the taste OR simply opt for a pre-flavoured Pea Protein instead. Next time I think i'm going to try the strawberry flavour.
