What made you start your journey & what were your starting tools?
My fitness journey started during a tough time in my life. I was grieving the loss of my dad to a heart attack at the age of 16. During this time, I experienced depression and considered taking my own life at one point. It took four years of going from 160 lbs. to 99 lbs. and feeling the weakest I’ve ever felt to wake up one day and want a change. So, I looked myself in the mirror one day and made a vow to never allow depression to control me again. I started working out and eating a high caloric diet to gain my weight back. Eventually, I started to see a change and decided to share my story and journey with the world through social media.

What have you found most challenging about staying active?
The most challenging part about staying active is my schedule. This can be an issue for many other people as well. Personally, I balance working corporate during the day while also maintaining an active fitness lifestyle. It can get difficult if I stay late at the office to meet deadlines or if there’s any change in my schedule. Sometimes, it can be hard to stay committed but I’ve conditioned my mind to look at fitness as my life as well.
What are your three workout essentials?
My workout essentials include my scarf because I have to protect my edges at all times. My waist cincher and protein are also must haves for me in the gym. The cincher helps me train my waist during my core workouts. The protein whether it’s in a form of a shake or a teaspoon of peanut butter is my energy to complete my workout in its entirety.
What songs/ music is on your fitness playlist?
My playlist depends on my mood. Sometimes, I’m in a trap mood and I want to listen to Kap G, Kevin Gates or Gunna. Some days, I’m in a 90’s vibe and I’m blasting Tupac or Playa Fly. Then, there are days when I’m feeling very spiritual and I’m listening to Miranda Curtis or Hillsong Worship. Then, I have Beyoncé vibes closer to the weekend.

How have you dealt with haters & critics?
I handle criticism and haters by simply not shedding any light on it. I don’t address haters. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. One thing I understand and accept is that putting myself out there comes with the criticism territory. You have to have a thick skin!
What do you consider workout Heaven?
Workout heaven is having the gym all to myself with the air blasting.
• And workout Hell?
A simple workout torture is heat. I hate training in the heat. Examples would be training outdoors or in a gym with no air conditioning.

Do you have any tips to stay motivated?
My tip to stay motivated is when you first wake up in the morning, listen to motivational speakers versus playing music or logging onto social media. What you hear in the first 15-minutes of your day will more than likely set your mood and motivation for the day. My second tip is to take images of yourself during the beginning of your journey. Avoid getting on the scale. The majority of people lose inches before they lose pounds. Many can get discouraged if they don’t notice a change on the scale immediately. So, I suggest taking images to compare and track your progress.
How do you think society ‘ideal’ body type has changed?
I believe that society’s idea body type has definitely changed due to social media and Hollywood stars. The ideal body type for women now is the hourglass “thick fit” appearance. During the beginning era of fitness, the ideal body type was simply having six pack abs.
Which of the Two Three Active Collection would you wear and why?
I love the “FOCUS” mesh bra set. I would wear this because I love fitness attire that makes a statement and stands out. It’s different but still adds a valuable message.

Any tips or advice you could give other women on their fitness journeys?
The majority of people typically go on a fitness journey due to a life change event. Someone is either getting married, just had a baby, or going on a vacation. So, we have trained our minds to set a goal (vacation), reach that goal and then go back to our normal unhealthy lifestyles. Then, we wonder why we can’t maintain these goals. So, the key to not only seeing results is by making fitness and health your lifestyle regime.
